On May 29th, Professor Tomas Casas i Klett from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland made a visit to the China Institute of WTO Studies at the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) in Beijing, China. During his visit, he met with nearly 30 professors and students from the institute to give a lecture on “Elite Quality, Sustainable Value Creation and Development”. His lecture on Elite Quality focused on a transition from micro-level sustainable value creation to the macro-level economics & human development of nation. His research on sustainable value creation; at the macro level with the Elite Quality Index (EQx) and at the firm level with the Value Creation Rating (VCr) have captured the attention from policymakers and the public in many countries and now professors and students from our institute can get a glimpse into the economic phenomenon as well. The lecture offered the professors and students a new topic to learn from and enhance their knowledge capacity in the field of economic development. Furthermore, the lecture gave an opportunity to Chinese and international students to learn more on different perspectives of famous economists and their theories. Thus, it helped improve their comprehensive understanding of the relationship between economics and trade. More importantly, it helped build a meaningful connection between the professors and students of our institute with a foreign professor who offered an entirely new perspective on the economic development. With his work experience in many different countries, professors and students from our institute can learn different cultural and economic diversity from those countries in his lectures as well.
