Since 2015, WTO Chair at UIBE has invited renowned foreign scholars and officials from international organizations to offer summer school courses for 10 consecutive years. Building on last year’s two courses—WTO multilateral trading system and A Practical Guide to the International Trading System—the institute has adjusted and added a new course this year: Introduction to the Law and Policy of the WTO, taught by Saeed Mohammad, former senior official of the International Trade Center (ITC).

Following full pre-communication and technical training, and organized by teachers of the institute, Prof. Maarten Smeets, former Director of the Technical Cooperation Division of the WTO Secretariat (Dutch national), successfully delivered the WTO multilateral trading system course to 59 undergraduate students of WTO Chair at UIBE from July 22 to July 31. Through in-depth study of the WTO multilateral trading system and international trade, students not only gained an understanding of the WTO’s organizational structure and numerous treaty cases, but also improved their communication and expression skills through on-site interactions and questions with the foreign teacher. They also deeply recognized the important role of international organizations such as the WTO in promoting globalization.

Dr. Mohammad Saeed, a Pakistani national and former senior official of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the International Trade Center (ITC), was invited to teach at WTO Chair at UIBE for the first time. He successfully delivered the specialized course Introduction to the Law and Policy of the WTO to 65 undergraduate students from July 7 to July 18. In the in-depth discussion of global economic governance mechanisms and cross-border financial policies, students not only systematically learned about the operational frameworks and classic agreements of international institutions such as the WTO, but also actively raised questions and engaged in enthusiastic exchanges during the interactive session with the expert. This significantly enhanced their international perspective and comprehensive analysis capabilities, and made them deeply appreciate the key significance of global economic organizations in promoting international cooperation and stabilizing financial markets.

Dean Prof. Tu Xinquan and Teacher Gao Jian of WTO Chair at UIBE were responsible for the overall liaison and coordination of the summer courses. They warmly received the two foreign teachers and conducted in-depth exchanges with them.
