WTO Chair at UIBE co-hosted a Seminar on Promoting High-Quality Development of Digital Economy in Hainan Free Trade Port
On 22nd March, Intel China and the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) jointly hosted the “Seminar on Promoting the High-Quality Development of the Digital Economy in Hainan Free Trade Port” at Hainan Mansion in Beijing. The event was supported by the Beijing Forward Working Group of the Hainan Free Trade Port and the Hainan Provincial Government Office in Beijing.
The seminar was held amid China’s push to accelerate the construction of a new, higher-level open economic system and the formulation of policies to support the high-quality development of the digital economy. Establishing an efficient, convenient, and secure management system for the digital economy in the Hainan Free Trade and Innovation Port (FTIP) is a key task, aimed at promoting systematic opening-up in the digital economy sector and accelerating the concentration of digital economy-related industries in the FTIP.
The seminar, hosted by Prof. Cui Fan from UIBE, featured notable speakers and focused on the development of the digital economy in the Hainan Free Trade Port. Lei Yu, leader of the Beijing Forward Working Group for Hainan Free Trade Port and Director of the Hainan Provincial Government Office in Beijing, opened the meeting. He provided a comprehensive overview of Hainan’s digital economy, highlighting policy advantages, challenges, and investment opportunities, while inviting prominent enterprises in the sector to invest in Hainan.
Zhou Bing, Intel’s Vice President and General Manager of Corporate Affairs in China, delivered a speech analyzing China’s digital economy policies from a multinational perspective. Wang Hongbin, Vice President and General Manager of Intel’s Hainan Company, shared Intel’s experiences of establishing operations in Hainan.
Prof. Cui Fan and Prof. Zhou Nianli from UIBE, and Song Pengcheng, Chief Scientist of Eucalyptus He Digital Industry Holding Co. discussed key topics. These included fostering high-quality development, ensuring the secure and orderly cross-border flow of data, advancing the construction of a digital bonded area, and expanding value-added telecommunication pilots in the Hainan Free Trade Port.
Representatives from ByteDance, Johnson & Johnson China, Yangpu International, Aliyun, Tencent Research Institute, the Hainan Provincial Department of Commerce, Tsinghua University, Beijing Institute of Technology, and other organizations contributed insights. They provided diverse perspectives and proposals for promoting the high-quality development of Hainan’s digital economy.
The event concluded with a speech by Tang Hua, a member of the Party Group of the Hainan Provincial Department of Commerce and Director of the Hainan International Economic Development Bureau. She encouraged enterprises in the digital economy to seize opportunities in Hainan, innovate, and grow alongside the Free Trade Port.
Leaders and experts from the Investment Promotion Bureau of Yangpu Economic Development Zone, Sanya Investment Promotion Bureau, and Hainan Data Exchange Service Co. also attended the seminar.
