WTO Chair at UIBE assisted in organizing a high-level achievement exhibition at the 2024 China International Fair for Trade in Services
WTO Chair at UIBE contributed to a high-level achievement exhibition at the 2024 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), held in Beijing from 12th to 16th September 2024. This marked the first major national and international exhibition in China following the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC National Congress. President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to the event, highlighting CIFTIS as a testament to the high-quality development of China’s service industry and trade, contributing positively to building an open global economy.
This year’s CIFTIS set new records, with participation from 85 countries and international organizations, including 13 showcasing independent exhibition stands for the first time. Over 2,000 enterprises participated in offline exhibitions, attracting more than 242,000 visitors, including over 100,000 professionals—a 20% increase compared to the previous year.
CIFTIS serves as a key platform for China to promote openness, deepen cooperation, and drive innovation. This year's event adhered to the theme "Global Service, Mutual Benefit, and Shared Prosperity" and featured two main exhibitions: the comprehensive exhibition and the thematic exhibition. The comprehensive exhibition, held at the National Convention Centre, included the Achievement Exhibition in the window exhibition hall, highlighting advancements in the digitalization, intelligence, and green development of China's service trade.
The University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) was entrusted with designing the content for the Achievement Exhibition at the 2024 CIFTIS, with the China Academy of World Trade Organization overseeing the graphic content design. Under the guidance of university and institute leaders, the Academy formed a dedicated team to manage tasks including information collection, expert review, multiple meetings, and design revisions. Over 70 days of work, they finalized design schemes for four exhibition areas: Service Trade Development Achievements, Service Trade Policy Evolution, Regional Coordination, and Leading Exports. Following more than 20 rounds of adjustments, the team successfully completed the design of exhibition boards and screens for all four areas.
The four exhibition areas highlighted China's achievements and emerging trends in service trade, the evolution of service trade policies, the coordinated development successes in regions like Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, and China's contributions to global mutual benefit and sharing in various service trade fields. The exhibition garnered significant attention from mainstream media, enterprises, and visitors. Media outlets including CCTV-1, CCTV-2, CCTV-4, CGTN, Xinhua News Agency, People's Daily, China Economic Net, Beijing Daily, Beijing Youth Daily, and China Youth Daily provided extensive coverage.
On the morning of 13th September, Prof. Tu Xinquan, WTO Chairholder at UIBE and several teachers and student representatives from the Achievement Exhibition's graphic content workgroup visited the venue for on-site learning. The students observed the grand scale of the event, witnessed China's latest achievements in opening up the service industry, and experienced the innovation and convenience of global service trade firsthand.
The successful completion of the preparation for the Achievement Exhibition at CIFTIS marks a significant step forward for the Institute in supporting major national events. The Institute has been promoting its research to address national strategic needs and practical social demands by involving its teachers and students in high-level international exhibitions and other activities. It has further strengthened the "government-industry-academia-research" collaborative development model and contributed to the success of the 2024 China International Service Trade Fair, showcasing the University of International Business and Economics' role in this achievement.
