Prof. Tu Xinquan was invited to attend the Jeju Forum in South Korea

From May 28 to 30, the 20th Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity was held on Jeju Island, South Korea. The forum was co-hosted by the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Government, the International Peace Foundation, and the East Asia Foundation, and organized by the Jeju Peace Institute, with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea and the Jeju Free International City Development Center (JDC).

Under the theme “Harnessing Innovation for Peace and Shared Prosperity,” the forum featured 53 parallel sessions on topics such as diplomacy and national security, climate and environment, economy, education and culture, and youth. Over 4,000 participants from more than 30 countries and regions around the world attended. Distinguished guests included Jeju Governor Oh Young-hun, former Speaker of the Korean National Assembly Kim Jin-pyo, former President of the Philippines Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, former President of Slovenia Danilo Türk, former Chairman of the State Great Khural of Mongolia Gombojav Zandanshatar, Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area Wamkele Mene, ambassadors to Korea, local government officials from Jeju, and other dignitaries. Acting President of Korea Lee Joo-ho, former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, and UN Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo also delivered virtual remarks.2.jpg

WTO Chairholder at UIBE Prof. Tu Xinquan was invited to participate in the themed session titled “Global Trade Policy in the Trump Era and East Asia’s Response,” moderated by former Speaker Kim Jin-pyo. Other panelists included former Korean Minister for Trade Bark Tae-ho, Senior Fellow Jeff Schott from the Peterson Institute for International Economics, and Professor Yasuyuki Todo from Waseda University, Japan. Professor Tu shared his insights on the trade policies of the Trump administration and China’s countermeasures.

During his visit to Jeju Island, Professor Tu also visited UIBE Confucius Institute at Jeju National University and had an exchange with Director Xu Wenbin.3.jpg
