Lu Yue Invited to Give a Lecture at Shandong University of Finance and Economics
In order to further strengthen academic exchanges between CIWTO and other institutions in the field of global value chain, Lu Yue gave a lecture on "The Effect of Global Value Chain Embeddedness on Productivity: An Analysis of its Impact and Mechanism" at Shandong University of Finance and Economics on May 23. Xie Shenxiang, Vice Dean at Shandong University of Finance and Economics hosted the lecture, and many young professors and students participated in this event.
In the lecture, Lu Yue pointed out that the productivity effect of global value chain embeddedness is the frontier of current international trade research, but existing research lacks sufficient discussion on the extent of the effect and its mechanism. The paper utilizes the firm-level data of "Annual Surveys of Industrial Firms from the National Bureau of Statistics of China", " Chinese Customs Transaction-level Trade Data " from 2000 to 2006, and the merged dataset of "World Input-Output Database" (WIOD) and "Chinese Industrial Firm Database" from 2001 to 2011, and investigates the productivity improvement effect of global value chain embeddedness. The finding provides a useful theoretical exploration to thoroughly understand the rationality and necessity of "going out" strategy and to break through the "low-end locking of value chain" dilemma.
After the lecture, Lu Yue, had an in-depth conversation with professors and students present, on issues such as global value chain and China. Then she seriously took everyone's questions. Finally, Xie Shenxiang, Vice Dean at Shandong University of Finance and Economics, summarized the content of the lecture, and thanked Lu Yue again for her visit.
