CIWTO Invites Associate Professor of Renmin University of China Wang Xiaosong to Deliver A Lecture

To further enhance the inter-school academic exchanges, CIWTO invited Wang Xiaosong, associate professor of School of Economics at the Renmin University of China, to deliver a lecture on "Firm Heterogeneity and Trade Barriers: Why Chinese Enterprises Encounter Anti-Dumping Investigation" at 2 pm, on 6th April, in Room 607 of Keyan Building.

CIWTO assistant professor Lu Yue, welcomed Professor Wang Xiaosong and briefly introduced his academic achievements. Professor Wang’s research field is international trade theory and policy. He has published three monographs, and more than 60 papers in China Economic Review, Social Sciences in China, Economic Research Journal, Management World, China Economic Quarterly, The Journal of World Economy and so on. He has been granted 5 academic awards at ministerial and provincial level, led 3 projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and 3 Beijing scientific research projects, serves as director of China Society of World Economics and jury for NSFC Fund.

Professor Wang Xiaosong said that China's foreign trade has developed rapidly in recent years, and the number of anti-dumping cases has also increased largely. Therefore, exploring why China suffered from anti-dumping cases is of great significance in enhancing the international competitiveness of Chinese enterprises. Professor Wang made a presentation of his latest work "Firm Heterogeneity and Trade Barriers: Exploring Why Chinese Firms Encounter Anti-Dumping Investigation" for CIWTO faculty and students in detail. This article made two main contributions. One is that while existing literature mostly focuses on the national, industry and case level, this article explores the causes of anti-dumping from the perspective of enterprises. Another contribution is that this article has good identification at the micro level which ensures the robustness of empirical results. In order to help students to build their research capacity, Professor Wang elaborated on how to use the relevant database and how to conduct good empirical research, and gave advices on academic research to the present graduate students.

After the lecture, CIWTO teachers and students had in-depth discussion with Professor Wang Xiaosong on China's trade policy and trade barriers. Professor Wang responded to each question seriously. Finally, Professor Tu Xinquan, Dean of CIWTO, made concluding remarks, and expressed gratitude to Professor Wang Xiaosong.
