Presentaion by LIU Bin at Illinois State University
Liu Bin, CIWTO Assistant Professor and Visiting Professor of Economics at Illinois State University, gave a presentation titled “The Participation in Global Value Chain and Enterprises Export Quality – Evidence from China” in Illinois State University on 4th October 2016 (American local time). Faculty and students from the Department of Economics at Illinois State University attended the presentation.
With stylized facts of value chain participation and export performance of Chinese enterprises as the main thread, he did comparative analysis in both dimensions of time and countries, and concluded that China was playing a larger role in global value chain but the quality of the exports remained relatively low. He then introduced the mechanism and research methods in detail and a series of conclusions drawn from rigorous econometric analysis. Professor Liu had further discussions with Professor Cleeton, Professor Kevin Zhang, Professor Chen, Professor Loomis and other scholars from the Department of Economics, on data sources, measurement, and robustness of the results. They generally believed that this research could provide constructive policy implications on value chain participation of Chinese enterprises and on the upgrading of China’s economic structure, while at the same time helped foreign scholars better understand the export growth of China. Professor Liu will finish his visiting period at Illinois State University which starts from December 2015 and return to China in November 2016.
