UIBE President Zhao Zhongxiu led a delegation to visit WTO and other international organizations in Geneva

From November 24 to 26, 2023, UIBE President Zhao Zhongxiu led a delegation to visit Geneva, Switzerland, and visited the World Trade Organization (WTO), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations in Geneva and the Permanent Mission of China to the WTO, and conducted in-depth discussions on the development of the WTO Chairs Program at UIBE, the founding of the Geneva Research Institute and the training of global governance talents. WTO Chairholder at UIBE, the Dean of China Institute for WTO Studies Prof. TU Xinquan accompanied the visit.

The delegation first visited the WTO Division for Knowledge and Information Management, Academic Outreach and the WTO Chairs Programme (KMD), and its Director Werner Zdouc warmly welcomed the delegation. The KMD from WTO and UIBE exchanged views on the future research plan and work direction of WTO Chairs Program at UIBE, how to strengthen the "synergy effect" with the WTO Chair in Shanghai, and provide more practical intellectual support for WTO reform.



Later, President Zhao Zhongxiu, accompanied by Prof. Tu Xinquan, met with Mr. Zhang Xiangchen, Deputy Director-General of the World Trade Organization and discussed the multilateral trading system and the opportunities and problems in the field of international trade faced by China, and had in-depth exchanges on giving full play to the academic advantages of universities, conducting WTO research, and cultivating talents for global governance under the complex international situation.

At the Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office at Geneva, five officials, including Ambassador David Shen, Counselor Liang Hong and Counselor Yang Mo met with the delegation and discussed how to strengthen academic and research projects, build talent exchange projects and send more high-quality global governance talents to international organizations based on UIBE’s strength.



At China's mission to the World Trade Organization, Ambassador Mr. Li Chenggang warmly welcomed the delegation and exchanged views on the challenges that the WTO still faces, the important role that China can play in the multilateral trading system, and strengthening the construction of think tanks in universities to provide more intellectual support for the study of the multilateral trading system.



In addition, the delegation also visited the Swiss representative office of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and discussed with the general representative Xiao Mingcheng about the work of the representative office and the founding plan of the Geneva Research Institute of UIBE.
