CIWTO Professors and Student Publish a Paper on Twenty Years after China's Entry into WTO
The article "Twenty Years after China's Entry into WTO: The Evolution of the Interactive Relationship between China and WTO", first published in Reform, No. 11, 2020, was reprinted in Xinhua Digest, No. 9, 2021 as the cover article. The authors of this article are Tu Xinquan, Yang Danning and Li Siqi, all from the China Institute for WTO Studies, UIBE.
The article states that, since China's accession to the WTO, China has earnestly fulfilled its commitments and successfully realized the rapid growth of trade and economy. China's smooth integration has promoted the development of the multilateral trade system towards a more balanced and diversified direction. However, at the same time, the United States and other WTO members have formed some negative views on China's impact on WTO, believing that the current mechanism of WTO cannot effectively meet the challenges brought by China, and then take unilateralist measures to suppress China by ignoring or even destroying the WTO system, and accuse China on the grounds of exceeding the existing rules. This constitutes the core concern of the current WTO reform discussion. China should objectively analyze the reform demands of different members and try its best to seek cooperation space, and develop flexible negotiation strategies for specific issues to meet the new needs of global governance after the outbreak of COVID-19.
