Tatiana Prazeres delivered a course on WTO for UIBE 2024 Summer International School
From July 22nd to July 26th, Professor Tatiana Prazeres, Deputy Minister of the Brazilian Ministry of Development Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC) was invited to teach a course on “World Trade Organization and Global Trade Governance” for UIBE 2024 Summer International School.
Prof. Tatiana Prazeres introduced the role of WTO in global economic governance, and highlighted the current dilemma facing the WTO from two aspects: trade negotiations and dispute settlement. What’s more, Prof. Tatiana Prazeres centered her discission around the issue of WTO reform, including the trade topic being discussed, the status of the main participants and future challenges. In the context of the rise of economic nationalism, the course mainly focused on three modules: how can the WTO integrate into a broader trade framework, its relationship with other trade agreements and expectations for future international trade governance. In the course, students conducted simulation exercises and case studies in dispute resolution mechanisms, trade liberalization and facilitation, industrial policies, regional economic relations, global value chains and other areas, and obtained a profound understanding of the core mechanisms of the WTO and global trade governance.
This course provided a valuable opportunity for our academic community to enhance professional competence and global insight, and inspired students profound thinking on WTO reform and global trade governance.
